Northern #AskHerToStand: A call for women leaders to shape our political world particularly in the North of England. With Esther McVey

Date and Time: Thursday 1st October 2020 at 18:00 –19:00 BST

About this Event:

3 panellists followed by your opportunity to ask questions. Our lead speaker is the fantastic Rt Hon Esther McVey MP – a strong advocate of Northern Women, empowering business and professional women to have a political voice which businessmen automatically take for granted.

Fleur Butler, National Chairman of our Conservative Women’s Organisation (CWO) who has stood for the European Parliament and was the only woman on the Yorkshire Leaders Board during her time as Leader of the Council.  She has supported women into politics around the world from Mexico to Indonesia.

#NorthernAskHerToStand is open to all women irrespective of their politics and more importantly for women wishing to develop their political voice. It is sponsored by the Conservative Women’s Organisation (CWO) in Leeds. Our aim is to get more women into public life and to provide opportunities for business and politics to network. Women who make an inquiry will be sign-posted appropriately.

Democracy at its best works by representing the whole country. Sadly, women only make up a fraction of our political representatives nationally and locally: less than 30% cross party of all senior politicians, including Councillors and MPs, are female. We hear too often of men in business having the ear of both local and national politicians. We need more women in public life. Esther McVey along with our panellists with the full backing of the CWO want to give women the same chance. We would like to know what matters to you and how we can help you to get your voice heard to make a positive impact upon our bureaucratic society.  Come and join us for our live, shared discussion.

We are also encouraging women from non-traditional backgrounds to attend to enable all female voices to be heard. It is only when the country is fully represented that our democracy can be at its strongest.
