Net Zero is seemingly never out of the news, and even if the news headlines are temporarily full of stories about gas and fuel prices, renewables are the big game in town.
It may come as a surprise to learn that the UK is the global leader in offshore wind and has one of the most mature offshore wind markets in the world. The UK owns a quarter of the total global offshore wind portfolio and generates more electricity from offshore wind than any other country. However, the UK still needs to significantly increase capacity to meet its Net Zero targets.
Innovation is part of the Net Zero solution and the UK government has committed to spending billions of pounds to supporting research and development and the development of new energy infrastructure. To prove the point, the UK is home to the world’s first two floating offshore windfarms. By 2030, the intention is to scale twelvefold through the emerging pipeline of floating offshore wind sites.
Net Zero is creating exciting opportunities across the entire economy and Innovate UK EDGE are working closely with a number of companies in this sector.
Livelead Limited are a case in point, a Hull-based company led by entrepreneur Gareth Alexander. With a background in aerospace, supply chain management and procurement, Gareth has developed Livelead’s OWL supply chain product specifically with the needs of the offshore wind sector in mind.
