This is Never Mind the Gap – an initiative developed in 2019 to attract more women into the rail industry. We’re giving you the opportunity to peek behind the curtains and experience first-hand what it’s like to work for a rail company.
Working in collaboration, Network Rail, Northern, TransPennine Express (TPE) and London North Eastern Railway (LNER) will be providing you with free training and work placements to show you just how rewarding working in rail can be.
Maybe you’ve recently been made redundant? Or you’ve taken a career break? We’ll give you the tools and knowledge to kickstart your journey and really fulfil your potential.

- Duration: Wednesday 11th – Friday 27th September 2024
- Location: Leeds Station
Requirements to apply:
- You must be available for the full duration of the scheme.
- You will be based out of Leeds, so must live within a reasonable commuting distance.
- You’ll need to make your own way to the location; however we will provide you with travel to additional locations if required.
- You need to be at least 18 years old.

Never Mind The Gap will cover a variety of topics such as:
- An introduction to rail
- Workshops on building confidence, interview skills, CV writing etc.
- Experience of what’s it like to be a train driver, using a virtual reality simulator
- An overview of the different roles that make up our station teams
- A tour of our train care centre at Neville Hill
- A final day of celebration at the end of the scheme
