For Spring 2025, Leeds Playhouse will stage the Leeds Playhouse the world premiere of Coraline – A Musical. After worldwide success as a bestselling book and cult movie, Coraline – A Musical is now set to thrill audiences when it premieres at Leeds Playhouse in spring 2025 ahead of a national tour.
The theatre has launched an open casting call to find young actors to star as Coraline – could that be someone you know? Candidates must be 9-13 years old at date of audition and live within approximately an hour’s commute from Leeds or Manchester. This is a paid role, and the Playhouse welcomes female and female-identifying young people and those with additional access requirements. .
This exciting new musical is based on the novel by Neil Gaiman (The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Good Omens, Doctor Who). On the show announcement of the show he said: “I love that the story of Coraline has had a life long beyond the novel—it’s been a film, an opera, and now a musical. I am so excited for this new version at Leeds Playhouse and on tour.”
Leeds Playhouse Artistic Director and Chief Executive James Brining said: “Coraline is a wonderfully imaginative coming-of-age story that takes us to dark places and challenges us to explore a world glimpsed from the corner of our eye – an unnerving place full of shadows and mystery, where nothing is quite as it seems. Coraline is a brilliant character, an unlikely but inspiring hero whose curiosity about the world matches her courage to face her biggest fears.
Casting Directors Keston & Keston said: “We’re looking for committed and enthusiastic young people to be part of the company for this exciting world premiere. We are seeking young people with excellent singing, acting and movement skills but no experience is necessary to apply. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds including communities typically underrepresented in main stage productions. As always, the call-out and casting process will have a strong focus on inclusivity.”
