Event organised and delivered by a Northern Staff Volunteer and Community Volunteers in Leeds and the Leeds to Morecambe Community Rail Partnership.

Northern is committed to supporting all within our communities to access our network and services with confidence. Older people in our communities sometimes just help to build their confidence. For many in this group it was their first ever rail experience so understandably was a bit nervousness. In addition due to recent events in society a little bit apprehensive about getting out and about using public transport.

With the help from Northern / Community Volunteers and the Leeds to Morecambe Community Rail Partnership all apprehension soon disappeared. The rail experience and the tour of Morecambe was a huge success filled with fun and laughter. We hope as result of our endeavours we have opened up the opportunities for rail travel across the wider region for this community.

As we had key influencers (Mums and Grandparents) from communities in Leeds we did take the opportunity to promote career opportunities in our business using Javaid Khan from the Leeds Station Team as a fantastic role model.

All of this would not have been possible without the efforts of Javaid Khan from the Leeds Station Team.

Javaid planned the day, organised community volunteers and transport for the group to the station. All in his own time such is his commitment to ensure all within in Leeds have access to rail travel and reduce loneliness and isolation within our communities.
