The University of Huddersfield is a growing centre of research excellence and we are constantly pushing the boundaries of knowledge. From influencing health policy to preventing rail accidents, our research impacts across the globe, answering the questions posed by industry, science and society. Our courses are delivered by academics who are world-leading in their disciplines.
Proudly open to everyone, we welcome a diverse community of over 3,300 international students from over 100 countries (HESA 20/21). Students have the opportunity to join one of over 60 global student societies and experience our full calendar of events run to showcase the different cultures we have on campus.
As a business-orientated university, we are experienced in supporting companies with specialist insight and research on a short- or long-term consultancy basis to deliver practical recommendations and meaningful results to help you move forward. Our leading scientists and researchers support businesses with product, service and process development, giving you direct access to individual or multi-disciplinary applied research to give you the competitive edge.
This commitment to exploiting our expertise to engage with business and industry includes the experienced team that manages our Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs). A KTP with the University of Huddersfield taps into our unique knowledge, skills and technology to plan and build new projects that bring business growth and improve productivity. Our track record shows award-winning and demonstrable results with companies in engineering, manufacturing, health and beyond.
Family-run bed manufacturer, Deluxe Beds exceeded financial targets by bringing in savings of over £1.4million through their KTP in partnership with Huddersfield. During her time with the company, Dr Sammar Javed from the University Business School improved marketing, company outreach and networking. The company also noticed improvements in its supply chain and saw a 100% increase in production through more efficient operations.
We are in the top 50 UK universities for Research Power, and three quarters of all our research is world leading and internationally excellent (REF 2021). Our applied research groups are world-leading in biomedical sciences, engineering and physical sciences, social sciences and arts and humanities, and since 2008, £156 million has been spent on campus development ensuring our access to some of the best facilities in the country.
The University nurtures and develops innovation and collaboration, and has built a reputation as a leader in the field of enterprise. In 2021 we won a highly coveted Queens’s Anniversary Prize in recognition for our innovative and ground-breaking work in advanced measurement in smart manufacturing made by our Centre for Precision Technologies. This follows our 2019 Prize for significant improvements to the design and safe operation of railway vehicles and track by our Institute of Railway Research, and our 2015 Prize for expanding the global boundaries of new music.
